---- the president’s column
I believe we have all earned this gorgeous weather. Get outside and enjoy it! At our last Board meeting, we discussed moving our September potluck to a  Sunday afternoon. And I would like to hear from you if you have strong feelings one way or another. Tentatively, it is on the schedule for the 13th of September, so if you will get back to me as soon as possible, that would be great.

The fireworks display is being postponed until 2010. It was just a too tight timeframe in which to raise enough funds. However, the organizer is committed to seeing it happen.  Take care, Astrid
---from Ken Schacht
Sorry for the fireworks cancellation.  The company we retained to shoot the display decided at the 11th hour that Blau's scow was not large enough to use as a launching platform.  We tried to find another company, but it was too late.
However thanks to Chuck Davis, Samish Island Fireworks is now legally licenced in the State of Washington as a non profit corporation.  This will make it not only legal but also easier to collect donations.  I will advise when the account at Skagit State Bank will be opened. Thanks to all who have offered their support, and we will solve the logistic problems in time for July 4th, 2010. Kind Regards, Ken

SAMISH FARMS WATER ASSOCIATION has 2 Board of Trustee positions available.  Each position is a 3-year term.  We have completed our planned major improvements, therefore the positions would require attendance at quarterly meetings and enthusiasm for the maintenance of our "fine" water system.  Please contact the office (766-7218) if you would like to be placed on the ballot or have a suggested nomination in mind.

GETTING PREPARED ON SAMISH ISLAND
We're starting a local program to help our residents be better prepared in case of disaster. “Map Your Neighborhood” is a way of getting to know one another and provide mutual aid should we need it to keep our homes and neighborhoods safe. We'd like to identify some people as volunteer neighborhood facilitators. Training should be about an hour and a half, and the Map Your Neighborhood process takes about an additional hour and a half If you're interested and able to facilitate this program for increasing neighborhood preparedness, please contact Sue Ellen at 855-7212 or at aylabmd@yahoo.com Rutheia: rwyckoff@wavecable.com Thanks for your help!

Firefighters Fund Raising: The Samish Island Fire Department wishes to Sincerely Thank all who have so generously contributed to our fund drive.  As you may have heard we are in need of more two way radios in order to communicate with each other and the 911 center more effectively during our calls. ( This was clearly illustrated a few week s ago when we were called out to respond to an accident in a field and it was extremely difficult for our vehicles to traverse the space between the incident and the road.)    To date, just under $900 dollars has been collected towards our goal of $2100.  We appreciate all the Islanders support so far.  Questions? contact Scott Colvin, Treasurer, at sacolvin@gmail.com/ 425-246-6539, or Michael Bart, bart@wavecable.com/ 766-7819  Make checks payable to  “Samish Island Firefighters Association.” mailing them to Michael Bart, 5207 Filbert Lane, Bow, 98232.

A Reminder to those who would like to see old trucks, and talk with their owners, to join us on Saturday, June 13, noon to 2:30 pm., for the meeting of the Cascade Chapter ATHS (America Truck Historical Society). 5348 Vicmar Drive, Al Langley.
