WELCOME THE 5TH ANNUAL
SAMISH ISLAND-WIDE YARD SALE!!
Join your neighbors this SATURDAY, JUNE 12 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Maps of sale locations will be down at the island entrance. It’s always a great time to socialize with your neighbors. and find new treasures among their offerings!
Of course, there’s the 4th of JULY PARADE once again, a signature Island event sponsored by our COMMUNITY CLUB and open to all who wish to march/ride from Fish Point to the Community Hall. No preregistration required, just have your group at the far end of Blue Heron Rd by noon. Kris Goodan will forge the lineup. The S.I. Marching Band assembles at the Community Hall at noon, brings on the music, and leads the Parade out at 1 pm
(Rain or shine, it’s a major Island event!)
The Samish Island Marching Band will hold two 'practices' before the July 4th parade. Please meet at the Community Hall at 7pm on Sunday, June 27 and Friday, July 3. The purpose of these practices is to encourage a little warm-up for the brass players' lips and so newer members of the Band can feel more comfortable with the music. And . . . of course, to provide some long overdue socializing with other Band members! Questions? Call or e-mail Gail Hopley (766-6823, ghopley@wavecable.com).
PRESS RELEASE: At the request of the Sheriff and local fire department, the Community of Christ Church will close the large field at the end of Blue Heron Rd. at 5pm on the Fourth of July. The area will be open for overflow parking during the parade and into the afternoon, but at 5pm a gate will be closed and remaining cars will be towed.
This action is being taken to prevent a repeat of last year’s unfortunate events at Fish Point when a crowd of young people became rowdy to the point that movement of emergency vehicles was inhibited, creating concern for residents’ safety. The Sheriff’s department has since worked with island organizations to prevent any recurrence this year. In addition to the field closure, additional law enforcement presence has been requested for that day.
The Church expresses regret at having to close the field and wants islanders to know that they are welcome to use the paths around the property at other times of the year. This closure the evening of the 4th is to prevent outside elements from jeopardizing a festive community event. Questions regarding use of the campground property or facilities at any time of the year should be directed to Lee Scofield, Camp Manager.

“HOW TIME FLIES” There is a universal feeling among older adults that time seems to “fly by.” This sentiment runs across times and cultures worldwide and is largely unexplainable. However, many scientists theorize that much of this phenomenon stems from how people experience things for the first time.... When everything is new, we tend to take in every last detail. We then store this information as memory. As the brain stores these new memories, it uses more energy to do so. As a result, first memories are denser than subsequent memories of the same experience. In short, when something is new, it seems to last longer. Martin Taylor
