from the COMMUNITY CLUB PRESIDENT: The
11th ARTS & CRAFTS FESTIVAL was a huge success. Thanks to all
who contributed to the tremendous effort to organize, prepare, and carry
off the fair: the Samish Island Arts Committee, those volunteers who
set up and cleaned up and, especially, to the artists and crafters whose
time and talents make this a great fundraiser and community event. Vendors
tried a few new things this year, including oysters and other hot foods,
and wine tasting and sales. (Let us know if you liked these additions
or not.) -----We are working out a problem with the Community Hall septic system. As a result of a routine inspection, we learned that the tank is only 150 gallons. 1500 gallons is the minimum size for smaller homes. The system is working, but obviously is inadequate for larger events such as the arts festival. We hope to get a permit to replace the tank with one of adequate size without having to install a pressurized system and a new drain field at this time, and we may be able to get a limited grant from county and state funds. ( Limited grants may be available to upgrade other Samish Island systems for a short time -- contact Steve Olsen at the Skagit County Health Department if you need to upgrade your system.) BARBECUE
POTLUCK. After our summer break, the Community Potluck season will
begin Saturday, September 15, 6:30 p.m. SICC will provide hamburgers
and salmon, so we need side dishes, salads and desserts, and lots of
hungry mouths. More information will be in next month's Shore Lines. The SICC BOARD will meet Wednesday, August 22, 7pm at the Community Center. All Island residents are welcome to attend. ----Chuck Davis Samish Island Hat Update: The very popular Samish Island crab logo hats sold out again at the Arts Festival. More have been ordered, so if you signed up to be notified when the order arrives, Denny Organ will give you a call. Between now and the end-of-year Holiday Arts Festival, extra hats, visors and the new denim logo aprons will be available to purchase at future Garden Club meetings (starting in September). Also, is it possible that Fred has lived on Samish Island continuously longer than anyone else? Fred has not left this beautiful Island for 63 years. If you have never left the Island in more than 63 years, please call Fred and introduce yourself (766-6683). QUICK
RESPONSE"Thank you" from me to our local volunteer
fire fighters, especially the medics. I was in need of emergency treatment
and transport July 6th. My dear neighbors, Ron and Fonda Downs, wouldn't
take my no as an answer, and called 911. Within minutes
my temporary RV home was overrun by an extraordinary team of at least
5 volunteers. I was tremendously relieved and overwhelmed by the caring
and professionalism of these Samish Island volunteers. They did a tremendous
job of attending to me and getting me to the aid car and the hospital.
Words alone can not adequately express my thanks and gratitude for an
exemplary job. A BIG THANKS from Camp Kirby to everyone who stopped by our table at the Samish Arts Festival. It is always a pleasure to visit with our island neighbors. We are very grateful for your interest and support. Please
note that the SAMISH ISLAND YOGA CLASS will meet only once during
the month of September - Tues., September, 4th from 10 - 11:30 at the
Church of Christ. ENJOY THE LITTLE THINGS, FOR ONE DAY YOU MAY LOOK BACK AND REALIZE THEY WERE THE BIG THINGS. ----RobertBrault ADS FOR
