February 2008

The S.I. COMMUNITY CLUB BOARD will hold its monthly meeting on Weds., Feb. 20th, 7 p.m., at the Hall. All Islanders are welcome to attend.

We had a great crowd for our annual meeting potluck in January. The business meeting was short, followed by folk dancing led by Ginny and Gary Ramey. Thanks, Ginny & Gary.
Last year’s officers were re-elected for another year: Chuck Davis President, Astrid Aamot VP, Fran Hansen Secretary, and Linda Strobel, Treasurer. New Board members are Amy Colvin, Steve Hoffman, and Charlie O’Hara. Let us know your thoughts on possible projects and activities. Retiring Board members Richard Sentner, Ted Remple and Eileen Anderson have done great work. Eileen will continue as webmaster and to manage hall rentals.
Tide calendars are available at Blau Oyster for $2. 2008 Samish Island Directories will be available at Blau’s about March 1, also $2.

The Island’s VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT’s performance was impressive during the severe wind storm of last Wednesday night, the 6th. Not only did they respond immediately to the downed lines, (and a resultant fire start), but they were still out directing traffic away from fallen trees all through the night into the morning. Emergency responses are something that we appreciate, but their commitment to safety in keeping personnel on the scene directing traffic for 12 hours was above the call of duty.

ANNUAL DUES: Many thanks to all the people who have sent in their dues for 2008. To date, 159 households have been heard from, compared to 201 at this time last year. And many of you have sent in additional contributions for the septic system upgrade and other projects. Your support of our Community Center is greatly appreciated. There is still time for those who have not yet sent in their $15 dues. If you have lost your card and/or envelope, you may mail your check to: SICC, P.O. Box 268, Bow, WA 98232. If you do not want to be listed in the updated directory, available as of March 1st, please indicate so, otherwise your name and address will be included.
---- Chuck Davis

FEBRUARY 14 -- VALENTINE’S DAY

“Love is the wind, the tide, the waves, the sunshine. Its power is incalculable......it never ceases, it never slacks; it can move the globe without a resting place; it can warm without fire; .... it can shelter without roof; it can make a paradise within, which will dispense with a paradise without”
------Henry David Thoreau ADS
