July
4 Activities:
PARADE: Plans for the 4th of July Parade are the same as usual. The
Band will assemble at 12:00. The Parade is open to all who want to march,
ride, float (?) or otherwise convey themselves from Fish Point to the
Community Hall. No pre-registration required, just get your parade group
to Fish Point (far end of Blue Heron Rd.) at noon and check-in with
Kris Goodan and her team of "Parade Officials." If you have
any questions ahead of time, please call Kris at 766-6909. The VonAllmens
have asked that people in the assembly area keep their dogs on leashes
- their picnic food was a casualty last year. Please clean up all litter.
SALES: Before and after the Parade, Samish Island
T-shirts, sweatshirts, license plate holders, and notecards will be
on sale at the Community Hall. Help support the Community Club and the
Garden Club with your purchases. Volunteers are needed to man this booth;
please call Chuck Davis, 766-6705 if you can help.
BBQ/PICNIC: Would your family and friends enjoy a BBQ and picnic
at the Community Center after the Parade? Please contact Gail Hopley
to offer your assistance and ideas. If there is enough support to make
this work signs will be posted around the Island and on the website
with the details of the event. Contact Gail at 766-6823/ghopley@wavecable.com.
Thanks!
The
Samish Island Marching Band will have a practice Sunday, July 1,
7:00pm at the Community Center. The Band will meet at noon on July 4th
for the Parade, and hopefully we will also march in the Berry Dairy
Days Parade, 10:00a.m. Saturday, June 23. Please let Gail know if you
can march in the Berry Dairy Parade, 766-6823/ghopley@wavecable.com.
Warning!
Our outgoing mail was stolen from our mailbox some time between the
evening of Sunday, April 8 and Monday at 10:00 a.m. My lesson, don't
leave your outgoing mail with the flag up over night. It is an invitation
for theft! -Kristen Boyes, Samish Point Road
SICC
Board Meeting will be Wednesday, June 20, 7:00pm at the Community
Center. All Island residents are welcome to attend.
Roadside
Litter Clean-Up Day. We have been pretty good about not littering
and in cleaning up what we can blame on others. We will have a clean-up
day for all-Island roadside litter the Saturday after the 4th of July,
July 7. Please police the roads near your home and other areas that
you may adopt, and leave the bags at roadside on Saturday. We will pick
up the bags Sunday morning and dump them at Community Center expense.
Please, only roadside litter and trash, not anything else that you want
to get rid of!
The
Edgewater Garden Club is organizing a field trip to the spectacular
Van Dusen Botanical Garden, in Vancouver, Canada on
Tuesday July 17th. Check out their website: http://www.
vandusengarden.org. Anyone from the community is welcome to join us.
We will leave the Island at 9 a.m. by chartered bus, and return by 5
p.m. The cost of $52.50 includes: transportation, lunch at the restaurant,
a guided tour in groups of 10 and all gratuities. If you do not have
a passport, you'll need to bring a driver's license and a copy of your
birth certificate. If you would like to come, please call Kathy Huckleberry
(766-8801) as soon as possible.
