Thank you so much for your support of the Community Center and its projects with your dues contribution. As of March 6th, 196 families have paid dues compared to 201 families last year, and dues continue to come in. If you want your name in the next directory printing, send the information as you want it printed, along with your dues, and it will be on file for the next edition.
A big thank you to all of you who sent in an additional donation for the septic system. It is great to know that when there is a need to repair and/or improve the Community Hall you can be counted on to support the effort. ------Linda, Treasurer

Artwork has been chosen for the SUMMER 2008 S.I. ARTS FESTIVAL POSTER This year's poster, as a memorial to Joan Colvin, will feature her piece entitled “Heron in Reeds,” created in 1995 (she was also the featured artist on the 1999 poster). In Joan's art statement about this quilt, she says, "If you are continuously exploring a subject, for instance the spirit and configuration of heron, then it's a great triumph when 'heron leg' fabric leaps out at you! If you have the legs you can go anywhere. This idea is analogous to the volunteers on the Samish Island Art Committee. If you have the volunteers you can make the festival a success! If you'd like to be a part of the festival, in any fashion, please contact Karen Hadman at 766-5096. The festival is traditionally held on the last Saturday in July, which is July 26th, 2008. Whether you want to participate on the committee, sign up to be a vendor, or simply want to look for unique local artwork to purchase, the Samish Island Arts Festival has something for you. Mark your calendars-- and keep an eye out for the beautiful upcoming posters.

The Island HIKING GROUP meets each month on the second Thursday. Come join us, 10am, March 13, at the Community Hall. We'll look at the weather and decide on a destination! Bring a lunch and hiking gear.

“One Never Knows!” Samish Island’s Betty Chowka, the tall, elegant 92-year old, atttending an ophthalmologist appointment in Sedro Woolley, so impressed a columnist for the Whidbey Examiner sitting in the waiting room that she exchanged words with Betty, and wrote a delightful piece about her headlined, “Secrets of graceful aging.”

WE WHO DRIVE---Observers have suggested that renewed reminders about slowing down to Island speed limits are in order, plus adherence to the newer STOP signs. The embedded bumps corner, S.I. Rd & Roney have been a helpful jolt, at least to some of us. With longer daylight, more residents are walking the roads, at times w/ carriages or animals. Remember to wear reflective vests in the daybreak & sunset hours of the day. (Also, workers in trucks could use reminders of Island speed limits.)

Items for the next Shore Lines should be submitted in writing to Kathleen Packard, 9920 Samish Island Rd., by 5 on April 3rd, (first Thursday), 766-6752, or kwpackard@aol.com
