March 2010
Mar	Samish Island Directory is now available at Blaus for $3.00.
Mar	Shore Lines deadline 5 p.m. to Shore Lines editors (Kathleen Packard or Nancy Liggett).
March Tuesdays	Yoga will continue each Tuesday through May, 9:30 a.m. to 11:am at the Community of Christ Church. All are welcome. $10.
Mar 16	Community Club Board of Directors Meeting at the Community Hall. 7:00 p.m.
March 30	Soothing Waters opens its 11th season. Warm water therapy for body, mind and spirit is offered.
Mar 23	Edgewater Garden Club Meeting. Coffee social 9:45, business meeting will begin at 10:15 AM. Our program, "Edible Plants and Perennials” (Organic food production for the home gardener) will be presented by Casey Schoenberger from Christianson's Nursery, and will begin at 11:00 AM. All are welcome!
Mar 26	Samish Senior Singles meet at 12 noon at Bobby Day's home, 10515 Samish Island Road. 766-4202. Any Samish senior single is invited. Carpooling can be arranged.

April 1-30	The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival is ongoing in April. As tulips are early this year, the fields may be lively after March 15, and end before April 15 - come early before they are gone. Many other activities go throughout the month of April though.

June 1	Summer Residents: Welcome Back! Consider contributing to the community club annual dues $15, which brings you the newsletter, helps support the community hall, and promotes community events. Send dues to the Samish Island Community Club Treasurer at the SICC P.O. Box with your directory card filled out. Don’t forget tide calendars and community phone directories are available at Blau’s, most of the summer. Summer Fun with an overflow group? You can arrange to rent the Community Hall. Check the SICC web site for the hall schedule, then call Eileen Andersen at 766-8202 or email info@samishisland.net
June	Shore Lines deadline 5 p.m. to Shore Lines editors (Kathleen Packard or Nancy Liggett).
June	The Wednesday Farmer's Market, at the Skagit Valley Hospital, is every Wednesday from 2:30 to 5:30pm, and runs from June thru September, 2009.
June	The Mount Vernon Farmer's Market begins its 2009 season, Saturdays from 9 am to 1 pm. The Saturday Market is held in downtown Mount Vernon at Gates and Main - it runs from May 30 to October 17, 2009. You may also want to check out the A nacortes & Bellingham farmers markets.

June	Samish Island-Wide Yard Sale Day. Plan your garage sale for this day. Time is 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. All islanders are invited to join in for the $10 fee for collective advertising, balloon, markers, etc.

July 1	Inspect boats, engines, gear, etc. for crabbing, fishing and boating season. Be safe, be environmentally friendly.

July 4	Fourth of July Parade & events, sponsored by the SICC begins around 1:00 p.m. Floats and participants begin forming at noon at Fish Point. Participate with humor for your neighbors' enjoyment. The Samish Island Marching Band starts the parade at 1:00 p.m. sharp! Notecards, hats, visors, Samish Island Book, will be for sale at the Community Hall.
July ?	Community Club Board Meeting, 7 p.m.
July 15	Crabbing season for the island (Area 7E) begins at 7 a.m. Summer crabbing is Wednesday through Saturdays only, plus the entire Labor Day weekend. "Winter crabbing" is open Wed to Sat., Sept 8 - 30.
July ?	Samish Senior Singles meet for lunch.
July ?	Community volunteers needed to help set up the canopy for the arts festival, 1:00 p.m.
July (last weekend)	Annual Samish Island Arts Festival - at the Community Hall. Information for artists, call 766-8801. Live music, grilled oysters, Sigi's lunch and cinnamon rolls, great vendors. Plan now to attend.

Sept (a Sunday afternoon)	Community Potluck and Salmon Fry, 5 p.m. at the Community Hall. Bring salads, side dishes and desserts to this Community Salmon Barbecue. SICC furnishes the salmon. Come & enjoy good food and good company. If you have a source of green alder for the fire pit, let Chuck Davis know. "Map Your Neighborhood" folks will make a short presentation.
Sept	Oyster Run, Anacortes (motorcycle traffic & noise affects most of the Skagit Valley, Anacortes and Edison)
Sept	Edgewater Garden Club meets at the Community Hall. Coffee and visiting 9:45 a.m., business meeting 10:15. See the Garden Club Program for 2009-2010. Garden Club is collecting wire coat hangers for wreathmaking in late November. Bring anything you have please!

Nov to Feb.	If winter storms leave you without power, heat, or ways to cook, come to the community hall - the oven, cooktop and heat are propane, and North Beach often has power & lights when other part of the island do not. Bring games, food to cook, and enjoy the time with others in the same situation. Contact the Community Club president for the key or more information.
December	Tide Calendars adjusted for Samish Island are available at Blau Oyster. $2.50, makes a great stocking stuffer. All sales benefit SICC.
Dec 2-4	Garden Club: Join the fun of making wreaths and swags to benefit Camp Kirby, The Samish Island Fire Department and Friendship House. We start at 10:00 a.m. and work until 2:00 p.m. each day. Bring greens from trimmings, windfalls, etc. Bring hand pruners and wire cutters. Everyone is invited to come and learn how, and to help make wreaths for community mailboxes and doorways.

Dec ?	SAMISH SENIOR SINGLES will celebrate this holiday season by putting aside the "brown bags." and having a potluck.
Dec 4	If you ordered a garden club wreath, you can pick it up at the Community Center on Dec. 4, Friday from 4-7 p.m. No Saturday pickups this year.
Dec 19	Samish Island Christmas Program and Holiday Party, 7 p.m. at the Community of Christ Curch. The "Samish Island Sitting Band" begins playing at 6:30 p.m. Samish Island Band meets at 5:30 for final program rehearsal. Program begins at 6:30 p.m. Kitty Bluhm needs people for the Christmas program. If you sing, tell stories, have a poem to read, a skit to offer, or just like to help out somehow, contact Kitty at 766-4236. Bring a plate of goodies to share if you can, and stay to share Christmas greetings with neighbors. See Christmas Program web page.
Dec ?	Samish Island Memorial Chapel Christmas program, 7:00 p.m. Favorite carols, refreshments. Everyone is welcome.
Dec ?	Community of Christ Church Special Christmas Observance, at 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome.
Dec 31	Annual membership dues may be paid anytime for 2010, but if you would like to be in the island directory, places pay by January 31. SICC Board recommends $15 to help pay for the Shore Lines and hall needs. You may also donate for special projects during the year, if desired.

Jan	Mike Judy has produced the 2010 Tide Calender in the Judy tradition. Also, Chuck Davis produces the 2010 S.I. Tide Graphs, which uses a different format. Both are available at Blau's, for $3.00 each.
Jan	Padilla Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve offers many winter classes. Sign up now for January and February classes.
Jan	Yoga class, every Tuesday, 10:00 to 11:30 p.m. C of C Church. Through March. Join the 12+ members and feel the stretch.
Jan	The Community Club Board of Directors meets on second Wednesday this month. 7 p.m. Community Hall. Election of officers, etc.
Jan	Time to renew your membership in the Samish Island Community Club. Annual dues are $10.00. Send a check to SICC at the address below. Also, fill out a directory card if you want to be in the directory.
Jan	Community Potluck and Annual Meeting, 5:00 p.m. Bring a dinner dish to share and come join your neighbors. Elect officers, have a good program, enjoy the winter night away from home with good friends.
